Mini Book Jewelry
Guest utilizes shrink plastic, stamps, clear embossing
ink, and a heat gun to make tiny, decorative book covers. The book covers are
combined with sticky-note pads that may be attached to a necklace or pin.
Whether they carry inspirational quotes, poetry, love notes, reminders or even
on-the-spot journal notes, these miniature primers are easy yet unique pieces of
jewelry.
Sponged paints onto plastic and covered the piece with
clear embossing powder.
Materials
shrink plastic*
sandpaper
pigment pads
clear embossing powder
heat gun or oven
assorted stamps
hole punch
wire, pencil or chip stick (to make binding) Post-it or other sticky-note pads,
paper, fold-out message (for inside book)
cord, jump rings, and beads (if making a necklace)
* Some shrink plastic comes already sanded. Other types
of plastic sheets will need to be sanded to give them "teeth" to grab paint.
Steps
-
Punch holes in 2 sheets of shrink plastic for the front
and back covers.
-
After decorating, place plastic on a tile surface
(something that can withstand heat) and shrink the plastic by heating it,
either with the appropriate tool or in an oven. Do both sheets, front and
back.
Note: While this may be accomplished in the oven, the heat-shrink tool
gives more control and is faster.
-
Place the sticky-note pad between plastic sheets. Lay
pencil, knitting needle, or chopstick between left side and wrap wire through
holes and around stick to create the binding. Pull out stick when complete.
-
Add jump ring to top of wire binding and add cording
and beads to make necklace.
