Flattering
Hairstyles The best time to determine the shape of
your face is after you shampoo your hair and it is slicked back against your
head. Note the width of cheekbones, height of forehead, narrowness of chin and
jaw and the length of your face.
Figure A--Bangs are a good choice for a long, narrow face because they add a horizontal line. Layers around the face also soften the look and widen the face. Figure B--A round face needs movement with layers that start at the chin. Short bangs are a no-no, but a side part with a long bang bisects the face and lengthens it. Another option is a loose, low ponytail with hair pulled back firmly around the ears for a slim silhouette.
Figure C--A heart-shaped face has wide cheekbones and forehead, with a narrow chin. A side part narrows the upper part of the face, while chin-length hair adds width to the bottom of the face. A blunt cut works well for fine hair that wants to lay flat. Figure D--A square face--wide forehead, wide chin--looks best with an asymmetrical bang line and lots of layers around the face, whether hair is long or short. Bangs can be chunky and uneven.
